The whole of India greifs as Dhoni announces his retirement from the international cricket. The one and only Captain cool of Indian cricket will no longer play on the fields.
Fans are posting pictures of him and showering their love on their favourite player. Some says that this is the end of their childhood memory and also a whole era. What all will this year behold no one knows.
Dhoni had earlier quit Test cricket in 2014 after the Melbourne Test on the tour of Australia and had handed over ODI and T20I captaincy to Virat Kohli in January 2017.
“It is the end of an era,” said BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. “What a player he has been for the country and world cricket. His leadership qualities have been something which will be hard to match, especially in the shorter format of the game. His batting in one-day cricket in his early stages made the world stand up and notice his flair and sheer natural brilliance. Every good thing comes to an end and this has been an absolutely brilliant one. He has set the standards for the wicketkeepers to come and make a mark for the country. He will finish with no regrets on the field. An outstanding career; I wish him the best in life.”
Another player also announced his retirement along with Dhoni. Suresh Raina, A member of India’s 2004 Under-19 World Cup side. Raina made his ODI debut at the age of 19. In July 2005, against Sri Lanka, though he had to wait five more years for his Test debut. That incidentally came against the same opposition, in July 2010. Raina achieved the rare feat of a hundred on Test debut. He was also a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian side.
Raina was due to make his ODI comeback in the series against New Zealand, in 2016, but was ruled out due to Chikungunya. He last represented India in the two shorter formats on the 2018 tour of England. In 2017, Raina was dropped from the BCCI’s annual contracts list.
Dhoni initially announced his retirement from cricket on 2014. But the retiremnt from the international cricket was this day. Though both the players will be seen playing the IPL coming this september 19.
